Men Fashion Photography

World War II Fashion Photography Shoot

Taking photos of men is a lot different them women. First off, some men feel more awkward in front of a camera. As you help to to feel more comfortable, the awesome shots and looks will come. For this fun shoot, the men really loved being by the plane or working with another model. It is important to show the models exactly what you are looking for. Also you need to encourage them through the session.  I learned these and more tips from Caryn Esplin. My settings for these photos were, ISO 400, Shutter Speed 1/250, and F/4. Here is a great website that explains more about fashion photography.

Women Fashion Photography

World War II Fashion Photography Shoot

This shoot was a blast! I was able to go to the local airport and to take photos of authentic uniforms and planes from the Wars. The Women were dressed in different fashions from the time period of the war. I used speedlights, a beauty dish, and a strobe light. Working with the women models was a lot of fun, especially being able to pose them with the airplanes and other cars and war artifacts. Caryn Esplin helped to set up this amazing shoot. She also taught me how I could work to do better on taking different shots. My general settings were F/4.5 ISO 400 1/125. Here is a great website that explains more about fashion photography.

Group Portrait Photography

Groups Portraits

Working with one person can be a bit of a challenge. Adding more people is even more challenging. Having them interact with each other and pose together is a little bit tricky. Some of my favorite are the candid shots where they don’t know you are taking the photos. With Larger groups, the more you group them in a balanced way together, the more appealing the photos are. Also you need to be aware of your background work on making the models comfortable together.  My settings for these natural lighting was shutter speed 1/160, my f/stop was f/4, and ISO 250. Here is a great website for group portraits.

Posing Graduates

Natural lighting is one of my favorite types of lighting. Here you can move around more freely without having to move lights around. Having snow all around really helped with reflecting light on the faces of the models. My settings for the natural lighting were F/5, shutter speed 1/60, and the ISO 100. Also if you want more of a studio lighting, beauty dishes and strobes creates soft glow. For that photo I also used a white drop down screen. Another awesome lighting technique is continuous  lighting. This helps when you the photographer are looking for just the right light. Here is an awesome website that show more about portrait photography.

Many photographers starting out don’t have the space or the money to have strobe lights or beauty dishes. One way to get around this expense is to use Speedlights. Setting up one or more Speedlight gives great lighting and interesting shadows. For these Portrait shoots I used 2 Speedlights. My f stop for the first couple of photos was F/5. My shutter speed was 1/60 and my ISO 200. Again finding the models personalities is key to getting the right shot. When people are placed in front of a camera they become unsure of how to pose. It is important to look for the little details and keep the model comfortable. Here are some awesome tips on how to do portrait photography.

Graduate Poses Photography

There are many different types of Portraits. One of the most common portraits to take are graduation photos. When taking different photos it is important to have the right lighting and to be able to pose your models. This post shows a mixture of different types of lighting. I used Strobe Lighting for the first 2 photos. I had an F/stop of F/4.5, shutter speed of 1/320, and the ISO 100. Also just using natural lighting is a good option. One thing I really like about using strobes being able to have a good exposure of both the background and the foreground. In all of these photos one of the biggest things to keep in mind is poses. It is key to find the model’s personality and then to be able to show it in a photo. Working with different poses and making the model comfortable is all part of the job. As you direct where they are looking, what they are doing with their hands, and the type of smile are all things you need to help direct.

Food Photography

Here are some other great ways to show food photography. The biggest thing to keep in mind with shooting food is being able to stylize it. With these photos we sliced the bread to give it a better appealing look. Also by having someone holding a cupcake gives a unique look as well. Small depth of fields also creates interesting photos. Changing angles from the side to the top also creates awesome angles.
